Sylvan went to the San Francisco State Field Station for their Sierra Nevada Bird Field Camp for 1 week when he was 15. David Lukas was the naturalist that led the week.  Sylvan really enjoyed the experience.  There was one other boy there (not a scholarship winner) that also was an avid naturalist.  The two had a great time looking for birds, exploring the local streams, and forests, and playing Foosball at the field station.  Sylvan is now a freshman at UC Santa Cruz studying Earth and Planetary Science.  He still is interested in birds and bought a spotting scope after the Field Camp.
