How and when did you first get excited about birding?
I first got excited about birding when I was three years old… My grandmother had bird feeders in her backyard with finches and sparrows and bought me my first pair of kiddie yellow plastic binoculars and gave me a laminated trifold backyard birding guide!
What bird camp did you attend this summer and why did you choose that camp?
I chose to attend Camp Colorado in Estes Park, Colorado. I chose this camp because I wanted to see birds such as the American Dipper, Brown-capped Rosie Finch and White-tailed Ptarmigan.
What are 3 of your favorite things that you experienced at camp this year?
A) Meeting new friends that had the same amazing interest as me. They are hard-to- find at my age!
B) All the new life birds!!
C) Experiencing birding the Rockies-so beautiful! I have never been to the Rockies before.
What was the most surprising thing about camp this summer?
How many of the kids had cameras..and were amazing photographers!
Do your future plans include birds in some way? If so, how?
Yes, definitely. I plan on becoming a wildlife research biologist or ornithologist. I hope to attend Cornell one day.
Thank you so much for giving me one of the most amazing opportunities of my life… I will never forget it as long as I live.
